Wow this really sucks. I guess you can start making castle fight for starcraft II now! :)

Anyways as a fellow developer you should try dropbox and version control like subversion or something so that you can have all your files both in the cloud and all your computers. All my stuff is always on at least 5 computers and on a server somewhere. You can even do dropbox + truecrypt desktop for ultimate security.

The entire concept of YouTD revolves around user input, user contributions. The best thing for the game is to port it to a much larger use base - SC2. The more people are aware of it, the more people can contribute, and the faster the game progresses.

We all love YouTD because it's such a fantastically made game. But it is fairly slow moving because there is only a small core of regular players. Icefrog said DotA picks up 7-11 million players at an estimate, but a lot of them now don't use battle.net for game access. YouTD relies on b.net, so take it somewhere where there will be a lot of players.

Don't get me wrong, I still desperately want YouTD to continue in the WC3 shell. But if he takes it to SC2, he could get more contributors and hopefully more donators as well. Everybody wins! Once I finish my thesis and get a job I'll be sure to donate to YouTD.

Chin up gex, it's the beginning, not the end.

ShitCraft 2? You think there will be much more players? Im not sure, because Blizzard will ony rip us off with this game:
- no lan
- no b.net chatrooms
- upload only max 5 maps (maxsize 10mb) => mapper will really low this feature
- cant play wordwide
- the addons will be expensive
- facebook spyware will be automaticly installed

Yeah, this game will be the best game ever... too bad, i loved Blizz, but thats it, no money for these **** more.

They announced that they are working on it.

They will come in a patch after release for sure.

Perhaps good mappers will get more space. But 5 really good maps is not easy to do.

In Warcraft 3 you also had to chose the realm you are playing on. Pings will be really bad if you could play world-wide but they are working on it. It's not so easy.

I don't care about that point because you could play Starcraft 2 as long as you want.

If you enable it...

The 5 maps maximum per author is a worthy point. It could be a problem, but then again I don't think any of us want a repeat of the Wintermaul saga - 30 maps essentially with no descernable differences and ever more stupid themes.

To be honest, I can't think of many map makers that had 5 maps in constant use. The best authors tend to focus on one project, two at most.

@MasterCassim: i tried the new SC2 Battle.net and i have to say: biggest **** ever. Blizzard totally failed. The WC3 B.net is much much better. If you like it, then seriously there something wrong with you.

- no chats (we need chats, its a mulitplayer game, holy crap we need chats. If people hate chats they should deactivate them. Where is the problem? Thats not an argument) And they dont want to add them.
- not even whispering is working
- hosted random map ordering sucks
- hosted map window too small, you cant scroll easily down
=> ITS REALY UNCLEAR
- (again) you cant search for hosted maps aka search tab
- often 30sec waittime when a host will start a map
- the whole style is confusing
- blizzard is deleting maps if they dont like it
- even if you deactivate censoring you cant write everything ...oh yeah but its okey, because we dont have chatrooms, so everything is fine. Holy crap

Its really really not fun to play random maps there. Belive me. Gex should stay with WC3 and give a **** to SC2.

Did you read my post?

- Chats was already announced
- Whispering is working for me fine (even WoW <-> Sc2)
- The hosting system is new and needs some improvement for sure (but it will be done; they already asked for feedback)
- Blizzard deleted a map ( http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/ge ... from-bnet/ ); you can't generalize that
- Why should you be able to write everything. There is no real reason why Blizzard should allow you to flame other people

I know that something isn't working or have to be fixed but no game is perfect at release. No reason to flame Blizzard about that; if you don't like it you don't have to play it.

this is based on version 1.00..
I can pretty safely bet that 1.24 of starcraft 2 will outshine warcraft 3's 1.24 on every aspect...
